Senator Cory Booker Takes Historic Stand as Unconstitutional Cuts Begin Hitting New Jersey

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 1st, 2025

Over the past 24 hours, Senator Cory Booker has taken a historic stand on the Senate floor—speaking out against a government that prioritizes billionaire tax breaks over working families, veterans, and essential public services. As reckless, unconstitutional cuts on critical services like education and public health begin to hit home in New Jersey, his leadership could not come at a more critical moment. Eric Benson, For the Many NJ coalition comments:

“Just this week, the federal government unconstitutionally attempted to claw back $85 million in funding from New Jersey public schools, jeopardizing resources for students across the state. At the same time, public health workers have been forced to halt critical programs due to sudden federal funding cuts—leading to stop-work notices and threatening services that protect vulnerable communities.

These cuts aren’t just numbers on a budget—they are real attacks on New Jersey families, schools, and public health. Meanwhile, an unelected billionaire is running the show—waging his own personal war against students, seniors, veterans, and working families while clearing the way for massive tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy.

Senator Booker is speaking for the millions of New Jersey residents worried about the impacts of these massive cuts to local services and programs – all in the service of tax breaks for billionaires. Senator Booker’s record-setting stand is a powerful reminder of our commitment to fight for a government that works for everyone—not just the wealthy few.”

As budget cuts hit home and workers are laid off, the ripple effects also will create new inefficiencies—disrupting essential services, straining local economies, and adding unexpected burdens to state budgets. These destabilizing cuts are creating new obstacles that make it harder for communities and businesses to thrive and even function. In New Jersey:
